One intriguing aspect of the Macbook Air is the scaled-down Intel CPU that powers it. This was initially thought to be a one-time deal that Intel had worked on for the Apple product. However, emerging reports indicate that the same CPU will soon be used by at least two other laptop manufacturers to create rivals for the thin-and-slim Macbook Air. These new products will be unveiled soon.
While this was not entirely unexpected, a liberal use of this new CPU would bring a lot of benefits to consumers. Not only is this new chip (which is based on the Merom family) 60 percent of a normal mobile CPU, it consumes just 20 watts of power as compared to a normal power consumption of 35W. This results in increased battery life and more effective heat dissipation.
