Looks like all the big boys are jumping on to the AMD band wagon. Dell has already announced their entry level systems with AMD processors and they should be out pretty soon. Excerpts from the press release read,
Lenovo today unveiled the new ThinkCentre A60, the first worldwide ThinkCentre desktop personal computer featuring an AMD processor. Available in a mini-tower or small desktop, the ThinkCentre A60 delivers mainstream enterprise features such as dual-core processing and improved virus protection and recovery tools for customers in need of manageable desktop solutions.
For the first-time ever, Lenovo is offering AMD's Sempron, Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 X2 dual core processors on the ThinkCentre A-Series family, giving customers more flexibility than ever before. Large enterprise and mid-market customers focused on acquisition costs will find that the A60 provides the quality and manageability they expect in a ThinkCentre without sacrificing the enterprise-level features synonymous with the ThinkCentre line.
Princy Bhatnagar, General Manager, Desktops, Lenovo (India) Pvt. Ltd. said, "Customers want innovative technology, solutions that reduce costs, and more choices."
Well, innovative technology and more choices is alright but it's the reduced cost factor that is pulling the Big Boys into adopting AMD. Even though Intel has a line up of blazing fast processors in the Core 2 Duo, there is nothing which would serve the sub 10k market (the E6300 is around 10k). This is where the semprons, Athlon 64 and a couple of X2’s step in, providing very good value for money.
The ThinkCentre A60 can be purchased at www.lenovo.com. Lenovo personal computers are also available through select business partners. Prices for the ThinkCentre A60 start at Rs 19, 900.
