AOL will test a new internet video service today, which is designed to let users search for videos across the Web, upload their own, buy or watch thousands of TV from any one of 45 video-on-demand channels free of charge. Content available for download on AOL Video will include shows licensed from Viacom's MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central networks, A&E Television Networks, and Warner Bros. Moreover, these downloads will be watchable on almost all devices. Users will also be able to subscribe and rent videos later this year.
An AOL spokesperson told the media that people will now be able to scan "thousands of hours of videos" using a new interactive programming guide on the channel. The portal is due to go live by latest by Friday in beta form at www.aolvideo.com, and it will be launched in final form in August. It will also feature a prominent link to AOL's video-sharing site UnCut.
