India Gaming Summit 2007 Held
By: Nikhil Singh   |   Nov 28, 2007
The India Gaming Summit 2007 I told you guys about yesterday happened at Taj Land’s End, Mumbai today. The topics of discussion were the present condition and the future of the Indian gaming industry; the industry's top dogs like Mohit Anand (Microsoft India), Venkat Mallik (Level Up India), David Christensen (Sony Online Entertainment) and Sunil Buch (Reliance World) were there to give their valuable insight on the direction of the industry.

They all pretty much agreed that the future here is in the online gaming scene (see, I told you!), and gaming hubs like cyber cafes. Desmond Lu of Shanda Interactive Entertainment (these guys are amongst the biggest game publishers in China) agreed whole-heartedly and shared his own experience with the Chinese online gaming market. What he said roughly was that cafes are pretty important to set up an online gaming scene, but after the online gaming (and MMO) market’s established, the online gaming scene somewhat migrates from cafes to people's homes.

After the tea break there was a discussion on technology and innovation, where apart from their insight, Intel’s John McClure, Logitech’s Subrotah Biswas and Wipro Infotech’s Kiran Subba Rao somewhat showed off their products (sly dudes!).

This was the first event of it’s kind in India and hopefully there’ll be a lot more to come. The fact that all these guys came down specifically to talk about it, shows that the gaming industry is certainly growing fast in the country. The Indian market’s very different from most other countries, and I’m glad that these guys recognize that and are ready to takes steps to help it grow.

I really dont know why u ppl always consider Best, the one who is Advertising more On TV & Web is the PRO in market ? i'm talking abt Zapak, Zapak.com is the Noobest site i have ever seen on web, in Multiplayer games they really are lot lot behind the real multiplayer gaming. Zapak dont know hwt are real Online game rooms, there servers sucks, high pings.

And in India we are gamers, CS1.6, CoD2, FIFA. But all media is always in run of those fake producers who state them selvs as BIG lords in gaming.. lol they have played any games online ever ? ask them !

yeah, India Online gaming is on rise, it's been on since last 4yr's. LOL i'm playing CS1.6 from last 2yr's now, & i play many online games, MMOFPS, RPG. > CS, CoD2, Fifa, Maple story, RF online, PowerFootball, WarRock.

No fist-fights between Anand and Christensen? Some discussion table!

The game cafe idea is something I seriously want to see fully-exploited with these newer, next-generation games that are otherwise much too expensive for to people openly accept right from the get-go. I talked to IndiaGames' Cyril Ferry about that and he wholeheartedly agreed, but its a matter up to the companies themselves and whether or not if they want to see that kind of infrastructure really grow.

The game rental idea Microsoft has started with SeventyMM is a step in the right direction, at least when its come to a low cost solution for consumers to try out the complete game and all its features (online and off) without having to fork over a hefty fee.
