Nintendo Launching Wii and DS in India
By: Avinash Bali   |   Sep 09, 2008
Both Microsoft and Sony have established their presence in India, but Nintendo was one developer/hardware manufacturer that always stayed away from this country. However, all that is about to change since Samurai-India, in partnership with HCL will be launching both the Wii and the DS officially in India by the end of this month.

Here's the lowdown from our compadres at The Angry Pixel:

Samurai-India, in partnership with HCL, will be officially launching the Wii and DS on 30th September 2008. In fact, they have already unofficially started supplying the consoles to all the major electronic chains and it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing them on the store shelves. The Nintendo Wii will be priced at INR 19,990 while the Nintendo DS will be available for INR 7,990.

Nintendo Wii getting Launched in INDIA is very good news for gaming in INDIA, but it is definitively Overpriced. For aroud Rs 20,000 u can get Wii Console with Wii Sport, Mariokart with Wii Wheel, Zelda - Twilight Princess and extra Wii Controller for Multiplayer from US.

@WiiFanboy: The news we posted on our site is true. We had contacted these people and spoke to them in person. But everything is still on a under wraps for Samurai-India, hence why the site is under construction.

We will momentarily update our report as soon as we get more info.

The Angry Pixel is a well reputed blog and they wouldn't put something like this up without concrete facts. Also it's an important news story that we felt needed to be shared with our readers - true or not.

Why dont u guys check the facts first? Just to increase hits you publish anything u like from other blogs. The site, samuraiindia-nintendo.com is a fake site. There are no plans of Nintendo whatsoever to launch any of its consoles in India.
WiiFanBoy @ Sep 10, 2008
price is 2o k because u.s and other parts of the world are huge market for them so they get profit on numbers but india gamers are too less but growing rapidly so they have to make 20k for make profit and the great indian taxes that's also help the price
sdasd @ Sep 10, 2008
its overpriced, 20 k for a console thats not even next gen graphics & when u look at the upcoming game catalogue for the Wii in 08 09 ,chances are you might just get a heart attack , Wii will be nothing more than a terrible dissaster in india at that price, what makes ninetndo think they can charge double for thier console . i sure want to play some zelda twilight princess , smash brawl , mario kart. but for 20 k , its absolutely not worth it when i can easily get it from grey for 13k . PS3 & xbox360 are way much better priced than what wii is getting priced .on the other hand The DS is sure to sell a hell lot than what the psp does . gr8 news for those who were looking forward to get a DS , as for the Wii , i suggest better get it from the grey or import 1 from the U.S

Ah, thats great! Lets see if the Wii Phenomenon will wipe through india households like the kaam waali's ponche ka Kapada!

The price is not soo open to everyone for that to happen though.. even then it should be interesting to see how it does! I wonder what the games will be priced at and who are going to get them here!
Reetesh @ Sep 10, 2008

This is quite a good news waiting for this one since a long time. But i think the price should drop to 15 to 17k as in US it sells for 250$ which is nearly 11.5K by current conversion.
Kaps @ Sep 09, 2008
