AMD to Focus on Indian Computer Market
By: IANS   |   Sep 16, 2008
Global computer-microprocessor manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Monday described India as an "investment hub" and said it would give more focus on the Indian computer market in the coming years.

"India is a great innovation centre for our company. The consumption of our products has increased here and we certainly view India as an investment hub," AMD corporate vice-president-Asia Pacific region Ian Williams told reporters.

He said AMD has four centres of excellence in India - two each in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

"About 650 people are presently employed in the four centres," Williams said.

Founded in 1969, the California-headquartered AMD designs and produces microprocessor and graphic media solution for computer, communication and consumer electronics industries. The company has a presence in 80 different locations across the globe employing about 16,500 people.

Speaking of AMD's India plans, sales and marketing vice-president (India) Ramkumar Subramanian said: "We've worked with a number of state governments in India on specific projects. Now we are trying to work in the areas where we can have showcase projects."

"We are now trying to clear the roadblocks and communicating with the government about our products. Given an opportunity, we can present a good value proposition for computers at a right price and better performance in India," Subramanian said.

He said AMD was also launching a campaign, "See for yourself", in India to promote its products.

im a happy user of AMD. I have bought 3 PCs in the past 8 years and have been very happy with AMD - they give the maximum bang for buck. any given day - AMD is the chip to buy - I am a heavy duty user of my computer and my current PC has lasted for around 4 years and with 16+ hrs of daily use - thats how good AMD is!

AMD is comparatively better performance than its competitor, but power consumption, heat dissipation is more.
