Samsung Electronics America, has announced the newest Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) model, the Q1P SSD. Developed with time-critical applications in mind, the Q1P SSD is the first UMPC of its kind to use an SSD solid state flash memory-based hard drive in place of a conventional rotational media-based hard drive.
With the introduction of Samsung's Q1 UMPC last year and shortly thereafter, the more powerful Q1P model, a new category and form factor for PCs emerged: a truly ultra-mobile device that provides the power of a PC, but can also be carried in a small briefcase, daypack or handbag. Intended as a companion PC, the Q1 UMPC offers mobile individuals — executives, managers, small business owners, and even students — to have PC capabilities accessible anytime, anywhere, where desktop computers and notebook PCs are not an option.
"What began as a collaborative project among Samsung, Microsoft and Intel has continued to flourish and evolve," said Bret Berg, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Mobile Computing Products, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. "Use of the solid state flash memory-based hard drive allows the Q1 UMPC to be used in applications where instant access to data is critical, and where the adverse environmental conditions make use of a rotational hard disk drive-based system impractical. The enhanced capabilities of the Q1P SSD UMPC serve as a perfect example of the natural progression of Samsung's Q1 product line and our commitment to continuing the development and growth of this new product category."
