Looks like the Dell-AMD relationship is about to deepen. Dailytech has reported that Dell will begin shipping 15.4" notebooks in Q4 '06, that will be powered by AMD Sempron and Turion 64 X2 processors. This is an important achievement for AMD who is trying to break Intel's stranglehold on the laptop and notebook market. Intel has just unveiled its newest chip “Merom” which has a few important breakthroughs and is generally expected to be a success and help increase Intel's lead in the notebook market. So having Dell that has traditionally only shipped Intel products on their side, AMD stands to gain a lot.
In other news DigiTimes has also reported that new notebooks will be paired up with ATI graphics controllers as well. This again is a great move, as any ATI card recently picked up by AMD will definitely be geared towards a common platform with AMD and will be closely able to match the price/performance advantage offered by Intel's mobile platforms.
