You gotta really give it to Philips for sticking with their Ambilight technology, and proving that it wasn’t just another fad. Now they’re taking that technology one step further with their Aurea series of LCD TVs by making the frame semi-transparent to let the light pass through and give an overall glowy effect.
The best part is that the TV also comes with stereo speakers and a subwoofer built into the same frame, which is very well hidden at least in the image above.
The company is now getting set to release a new line of LED backlit televisions called the Aurea series. The new sets up the ante in the design department by letting the LED illumination show around the border of the television screen. The LCD televisions also do an excellent job hiding their internal speakers and subwoofer from view by using 26 tiny drivers instead of individual larger speakers.
The first model in the series will be the 42-inch 42PFL9900D LCD TV with 1080p HD resolution and 8000:1 contrast ratio. The only drawback I currently see in the hefty price of €5000.
