Linux Body Releases New Standard For Desktops
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Apr 26, 2006
In a major move forward today for Linux Desktop Users, The Free Standards Group has released Linux Standard Base (LSB) 3.1, marking the first version of the standard that is aimed at developing a common standard for desktop Linux applications. The Linux Standard Base is a collective effort to create a single common system for Linux distributions.

Aimed at easier certification and an increased Linux adoption, it lets developers craft a standard version of their software that will work on all LSB compliant Linux distributions.

The initiative is supported by a series of Linux vendors and software developers including IBM, HP, Novell, Red Hat, Sun Microsystems and Real Networks.
