LG Offers Insurance on Lost Mobile Phones
By: Tech2.com News Staff   |   Apr 11, 2008
LG Electronics has tied up with United India Insurance Co. Ltd. and is offering a Mobile Theft Insurance Plan for its customers at no extra charge.

All LG GSM handsets bought on or after April 1st 2008 will be insured against theft for a period of one year from the date of purchase.

Anil Arora, Business Group Head, LGEIL, "Loss of mobile due to theft is a major concern for handset buyers. Customers stretch their budget to purchase latest handsets, and cannot afford to lose them. LG Mobile Theft Insurance plan would provide a perfect solution to this. We not only guarantee for providing the best phones in the market but also guarantee to safeguard customer's interest in case of mobile theft."

In the event of handset theft, the buyer should lodge an FIR within 24 hours of occurrence of the same, block the SIM card with the respective service provider and send the information to the insurance company within 7 days of the loss.

The 4 steps to avail insurance are
- Fill the claim form.
- Attach a copy of the bill given to you at the time of purchase.  The invoice must contain the IMEI number of the handset.
- Lodge FIR under Section 379 IPC for handset theft and attach a copy with the claim form
- Mail the documents to the insurance company through registered post.

The customer will be paid back according to the market value of the mobile phone once all the documents are submitted as explained in the claim form. The insurance claim shall be settled directly by the insurance company within 15 days of receipt of the claim.

Select models of LG GSM handsets also contain LG's unique Anti Theft Mobile Tracker (ATMT) through which one can track their stolen mobile phones, as soon as another SIM card is inserted.

Why only on GSM, LG has a major share in CDMA also. The offer should be extended to CDMA subscribers too.

misleading title ..... 'lost' .... condition - lodge a complaint of theft ....
This is something that the cops never do ... they never lodge an FIR for theft ... its always for lost phone ... which never requires any investigation .... so this scheme will always result the customer to be at the losing end
