SE Launches 2 New HSDPA-Enabled Handsets
By: Shayne Rana   |   Apr 24, 2008

Sony Ericsson has launched two new web-friendly HSDPA enabled handsets: the Z780 flip phone and the G502 candy bar. SE is clearly tapping into a growing segment of the population that surfs the net with their handsets quite frequently.

"These two phones are quite distinct, yet both have the potential to introduce more users to the world of the web on your mobile," said Martin Winkler, director of global marketing and head of multimedia web at Sony Ericsson. "Being able to check your email whenever you like, or surf the web when on the move, should not just be the preserve of professionals.”

The Z780, similar to the earlier Z770, is a triband 3G and HSDPA-enabled handset that has a clamshell design and is loaded for web usage. It’s designed to allow users to conveniently receive email or browse the web at high speeds in countries across the world. It comes preloaded with A-GPS and Google Maps.

Other features include a 3 megapixel camera with an FM radio and a media player. The Z780 supports Bluetooth with an A2DP profile and M2 cards for external memory. It has a 2.2 inch display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution and a small external monochrome display as well.

The second handset, the rather catchy-looking G502, is also HSDPA capable. It too supports external memory and Bluetooth with A2DP. It's not GPS-enabled, but comes preloaded with Google Maps. It also has a 2 megapixel camera, FM radio and media player.

The Google Maps application in both handsets is the latest mobile version. The high-quality maps give you a satellite view of the local area and listings of restaurants and hotels, complete with any reviews or ratings available. This version also enables users to receive turn-by-turn directions to areas. The handsets also support Exchange ActiveSync, a Set-Up Wizard for configuring email accounts.

The Z780 will be available in Grand Onyx and Amethyst Silver in selected markets from Q2 2008, and the G502 will be available in Champagne Black and Brilliant Hazel. Prices haven't been announced yet, but stay tuned.

The G502 is the first such model, however, to feature high-speed HSDPA capability. This means that more users can now benefit from faster browsing and downloading capabilities in a phone that has a feature-set that is impressive and incredibly easy to use – perfect for those who want to stay in control of their lives.
Key features include a non AF 2 megapixel camera and aGPS.

The G502 is a UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 phone that will be available in Champagne Black and Brilliant Hazel in selected markets from Q2 2008.
