Optical media developer, Moser Baer in conjunction with its recent acquisition OM&T (the former research and development subsidiary of Philips) has developed the world's first 8x Blu-Ray recordable disc. This disc will allow end-users to burn two hours of HD content in less than 15 minutes.
"This is a major achievement for the Company and it gives us a significant advantage in the fast growing next generation optical format market," stated Ratul Puri, Executive Director of Moser Baer. "Moreover, this vindicates our strategy of acquiring OM&T and adding their capabilities to the strong in-house R&D team to lead the technology development curve in the optical and photovoltaic space. The pioneering work in the Blu-ray format will further enhance our global leadership position."
This new development marks a new phase, in the struggle for dominance between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD to be the definitive next-gen media. Blu-Ray backed by Sony and a whole host of movie studios has taken a lead and with the development of this media, Blu-Ray will really get a boost in the arm.
