Finally BlackBerry fans can breathe a sigh of relief as RIM has announced the new BlackBerry 8820 with Wi-Fi. That's not all - the new BlackBerry will also have an integrated GPS module and RIM has also stated that the 8820 should be out somewhere in the next few weeks. This new device will have the ability of switching from cellular to Wi-Fi without having the calls dropped (UMA- unlicensed mobile access). Though it’s equipped with EDGE, not being 3G enabled could potentially be a let down for a few BlackBerry users. The phone will also have security protocols for Wi-Fi like WEP, WPA and WPA2.
The 8820 will also support microSD and microSDHC (High Capacity) cards for external memory. This model will also support Bluetooth with A2DP compatibility and also have the new media player that supports full screen videos. Other features are the same like the ‘Pearl’ navigation system, full QWERTY keypad and the 240x320 pixel resolution display. The availability and price of the BlackBerry 8820 has not yet been disclosed.
