MySpace Launches in India
By: Shayne Rana   |   Apr 17, 2008
MySpace today announced the official launch of MySpace India that’s a dedicated community designed for Indian users. The launch will be celebrated first in Mumbai with a rock concert event and party on April 17 at the Bandra’s Land's End Amphitheater and then in Bangalore with a MySpace Developer Platform workshop on April 21.

"We're thrilled today to be launching MySpace in one of the world's most vibrant cultures," said Travis Katz, Managing Director of International for MySpace. "We will be providing the people of India the tools they need to live their lives online and empower them with a launch pad for Indian creators from developers, to musicians to filmmakers, to showcase their talents on the global stage." According to him and I have to agree – MySpace is the worlds largest Focus Group.

MySpace India has allied with Star TV to create an original network television program called "Campus Star" that will also feature on Channel V. The new show, currently airing on television in India, is a nationwide college talent competition featuring celebrity judges and the voting MySpace audience.

The local site will be hosting an outdoor musical event held at the Land's End Amphitheater where users will be able to see live performances by some of India's popular rock bands Pentagram, Super Fuzz, and Them Clones. Other performers include Raghu Dixit Project, Shaair and Func and Swarathma.

On April 21, the MySpace Developer Platform team will be on-site in Bangalore to welcome local developers onto the open MySpace platform. The platform allows users and developers alike to create unique content to be shared worldwide via MySpace. The tools are said to be simple to use for anyone and everyone. Unfortunately MySpace has not launched anything specific for mobile users in India yet but I was told that it’s a work in progress.

I wonder how many online personalities will one have to maintain. Most of the common-indians use orkut already, it has simple interface and does what is required.

so I doubt that many will go for this flashy thing, but oh well, seeing that it will be paired with Star network and everything it will surely get popular :D
