Apple Launches Safari For Windows
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Jun 12, 2007

WWDC has come and gone and for once Apple has failed to impress the world with an earth-shattering announcement. Unlike last year when they had introduced the hotly anticipated iPhone, their biggest announcement of this year is the introduction of their Safari browser for Windows. The newly introduced Safari 3.0 works with Windows XP/Vista and has been brought to the Windows platform, as Apple looks to further its popularity. According to Steve Jobs, Safari right now accounts for about 5 percent market share and if it is to grow further, the transition to Windows was a natural move.

“We would love for Safari's market share to grow substantially," Jobs said. "The Mac's market share is growing. ... But we want to grow maybe even in addition to that."

A first look at the browser shows good rendering speeds and a good RSS reader. Furthermore, its font smoothing makes the whole browsing experience a good one. However with Firefox’s ever-growing market clout and the recently revamped IE launch, it remains to be seen how much of a dent this browser can make in the Windows market.

The Safari that is available for Windows now is a preliminary release. The final version will be available in October.

Why all people lie like this, the safari doesnt even render some yahoo pages right, it is a memory hog 80mb load with only one web-page opened, no status bar, it renders surely slower than firefox 2 and opera9, only apple website looks cool and really interesting, some effects and colors on pages are really good to see, but still when a software is needed for windows , it must use of extensive use of right-click functions , but safari does not, it still has a long road to be a windows browser, Internet explorer has always been a better one for Mac too

hey... i downloaded the safari after watching the Keynote online, but am not that happy. Yes the UI is great and very 'apple' types, but it I encountered a few issues -

1. Gtalk dosent run on Gmail - I use gtalk when i am signed in on my Gmail mailbox, but it aint work with Safari, so its a disappointment, i dont want to download Gtalk separately !

2. I was trying to send a mail through Gmail, through Safari with an attachment and it refused to go !, next moment i tried on Firefox, and it went without any hitch

So i am sticking to Firefox, the speed depends on the net connection and i am definitely happy with Firefox. But I just Love Apple and am gonna buy a mac soon :)
