Since Hellboy isn’t as well known as Superman, Spiderman or Batman, I thought I’d start this preview with a slight history lesson. Hellboy is a red horned demon with a hand of stone and a heart of gold who was summoned to our world from a parallel universe by Nazi occultists but he was rescued by the United States’ Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) who raised him to be a model citizen and fight the good fight against evil. After numerous comics, two animated movies and one awesome motion picture starring Ron Perlman, Hellboy is all set to make his next gen debut on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
The game, which is being developed by Australian studio, Krome Studios (not that I think any lesser of them but they’ve developed not one but two Barbie games) will see Hellboy thwart the nefarious plans of ze Germans which as usual, revolves around world domination with some help from the paranormal. As expected, the game will play out like your typical brawler/action game with elements of platforming thrown in as well; only don’t expect Hellboy to move like Dante… his physical size limits his movement to a certain extent but what he lacks in speed, he’ll make up for, in pure brute strength. Through out most of the game, he’ll be dishing out some serious pain courtesy his stone hand with which he can pummel, punch, and maim enemies of different shapes and sizes. If he finds the odds stacked firmly against him, he’ll also be able to use his trusty revolver to even them out.
