Fusion is a major part of life these days. We have fusion music, fusion food, fusion relationships... Okay, I was joking there. But fusion electronic devices are indeed an idea that's caught on. This integration has a major advantage – it reduces the number of gadgets one needs to tote around. That explains why our cellphones are getting more interesting and complex with each passing year.
Truth be told, I was not too familiar with this company called Aigo, till it invited me to see the products it was planning to release in India. My initial reaction, as I mentioned before, was – "quite impressive!" But since then I've had a chance to test a few of them. I decided to start off with Aigo’s A020 MP3 watch because it fascinated me more than some of the other gadgets.
Form Factor
It may not look like a Tag Heuer or an Omega or a Rolex, but it has a charm of its own. The A020 is designed by Citizen and this analog watch looks quite stylish and rugged. As far as I know it’s not water resistant (my colleagues never quite got the chance to spill coffee on it) but I did find the glass relatively scratchproof.
A small USB cable that fits into the strap of the watch gives it a rather James Bondish look. Aigo has made efficient use of available space by allotting multiple functions to buttons. For instance, the Power key doubles as the Play and Pause key. Mode allows you switch between the voice recorder (that’s right, it has an integrated voice recorder) and the 4 EQ presets (yup, it has those too). There’s even a separate Delete key that doubles as a Shuffle mode switch for the player.
Don’t worry, everything is clearly labeled and there are light indicators in the dial to let you know what function is active. The other side of the watch has the volume keys that also allow you to navigate through your files. On the whole, it looks good and is very comfortable to wear.
Performance
I was impressed with the A020's overall performance. The sound quality wasn’t top-notch or anything but it was pretty darn good. The EQ presets do help make the experience a little bit better. The earphones are not too comfy if you don’t use the foam covers. Trust me, the sound may not be loud enough to drown out the world around you but it's enough to let you walk around in peace.
The device is easy to use, and no complicated software needs to be installed on your PC. Simply plug and play! It reads both MP3 and WMA formats. However, ease of use is compromised if you have folders – I couldn't seem to find any sort of folder switch option.
