For testing the performance of the G30, we have divided the tests into 3 parts. In our first part, we have put the laptop's battery through its paces with the help of Battery Cruncher Pro and standard use. In the second part, we have utilized 3dmark 2006 and PCMark 2005 for arriving at actual performance figures. In the final and concluding part of our tests, we have checked out the media functionality of the laptop i.e. media center integration and how well the remote works for playback / TV watching.

The battery tests were frankly a surprise. The G30 was able to achieve nearly 2 hours of battery life. This is a very strong figure, and shows some great power management. Comparable laptops, with such powerful configurations, at best, are able to achieve 1 hr 10 minutes of battery life. The 3dmark and PCMark scores were on the other hand as expected. The PCMark score was a very healthy 5012 and 3dmark scored just over 2100. Both these scores reflect the quality components and system specifications of the G30.

Media playback on the G30 was also uneventful. The provided remote works very well and allowed us to browse music files, watch movies and surf TV channels without issues. Audio playback through the Harmon Kardon speakers was adequate, without getting "boomy" at high volumes. Unfortunately due to the non-availability of HD-DVD media, we were unable to test the HD-DVD drive itself. For testing the HD playback capability of the laptop, we had to be content with just playing back some 1080p-encoded video files. The laptop was easily able to handle this and sailed through any HD content we threw at it.
The Toshiba Qosmio G30 can be summed up in 3 words "It’s a monster!" It is easily able to handle anything that is thrown at it – be it gaming, multi-media playback or media center use. We have reviewed quite a few laptops in the past year, and have yet to come across any laptop that has so effortlessly straddled so many different tasks.

The G30 with its pricing of Rs. 1,60000 is not for everyone. If you do have the funds for it, the G30 is worthy every rupee you spend on it. It offers full VFM for its explosive performance, above average battery life and next-gen support.
