This was an unusual result. We were frankly expecting a bigger jump. Still the result is nothing to shout about. The 7950 GX2 is an SLI solution i.e. 2 7900 GTX cards slapped on together. For the 8800 GTS, to be nearly 7 percent faster it is a creditable achievement considering it’s a mainstream card and retails at a much lower price point as compared to the 7950 GX2.

F.E.A.R
Here the result changes. The Nvidia 7950 GX2 leads the 8800 GTS by some degree of respect. However it’s still early days for the 8800 GPUs. As drivers mature further and game companies start developing their games for the new range of GPUs will change. For now the card remains neck-to-neck with the 7950 GX2.

Company of Heroes
The strong performance of the GTS continues here. It actually beats the 7950 GX2 and is otherwise just a step behind in the performance stakes.

P.R.E.Y.
The performance remains consistent. It actively beats the 7950 GX2 in some cases and only loses out by a fraction at the higher resolution.

Through our testing we kept a watch on the temperature of the card. While idling, the card was at 56-57 C and under full load reached 71 C. This shows the efficiency of the HSF and makes it an ideal solution for long gaming solutions.

The GeForce 8800 GTS is an impressive card. Not only was it able to keep up with Nvidia’s previous flagship model in most games, it offered a 16xAA mode that till date was the domain of SLI powered systems. It is DX10 and Vista ready and with the kind of promise DX10 is offering, the card’s performance and worth is only going to increase. At a cost of Rs. 26,000 we recommend the card without reservations. This is the kind of quantum jump, a person can justify spending.
