Keeping in mind the mainstream nature of this card, we used a mid-level gaming machine for our tests. We specifically chose to forego testing it on our Conroe based setup as anyone who is willing to shell out the big bucks for a quad-core CPU, will definitely be looking at a different graphical product.

Our Test Rig

Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP

System memory: 2.0 GB Corsair DDR-2 Select Value 667 MHz

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+

CPU speed: 2400 MHz

HDD: Western Digital Raptor 74 GB 10000 RPM

Sound system: SoundMAX HD Audio

Monitor Viewsonic: VX2235WM

Graphics card:Zebronics 7900 GS

Bus type: PCI Express x16

Memory: 640.0 MB

Current VPU speed: 450 MHz

Current memory speed: 660.00 MHz

Driver version: 93.71 Nvidia (English)

As you can see our machine may not be as fast as the Conroe setup, it is still fast enough to run most demanding games. To test the performance of the 7900GS, card we decided to compare it to its bigger brother—the 7900GT which we have set as the default value for our tests. The following software and games have been used for the tests:

3DMark 2006 - This is the perfect solution for anyone who wishes to measure overall system and graphic performance.

F.E.A.R - This game is visually one of the most demanding games, and has spent the last year trying to kill every graphic card out there.

Prey - Though this game is based on the Doom3 engine, Human Head Studios has tweaked the graphics to a new level. The game pushes graphics cards hard and is quite unforgiving.

Company of Heroes
- Recently introduced, this game features a brand new Essence engine, which has been rewritten from scratch by Relic, to use newer features such as HDR, dynamic lighting and shadows. Being an RTS it pushes out a lot of detail and is graphically very appealing.

For the games, the resolutions we tested were at 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. Each game was run three times to eliminate any problems and arrive at actual figures. The driver we used is 93.71 which is the current stable driver. All tests were run at 16XAF, 4XFSAA.

It shouldve been compared to a competitive 7900 GS to evaluate .... a consumer wont mind spending 500 bucks more to get a better deal.

Its too expensive, especially when you can get a 7900GT at around 1-1.5k more. In the US you can get a 7950GT at this price.
