The console versions of the game also have bonus modes like Crazy Box and Crazy Pyramid, where you can play some crazy (sorry for overusing the pun), mini games. These include jumping your taxi off long distances from a ramp, leaping over walls, ramming into golf balls to make them cover long distances and even popping balloons, to name a few.
These games are short and highly re-playable for the want of a better score. Speaking for replay value, both games feature a multiplayer mode, where you can wirelessly play with a friend. But sadly, no Internet play is available for those of us without any friends (or friends with PSPs).
Visually, these games haven't seen an upgrade since their first version. Though their 16:9 aspect ratio suits the PSP's widescreen perfectly, colors and textures tend to look ancient compared to the other racing/driving games you get on the platform these days. Still, it doesn't mean the game looks downright ghastly, it just retains an old-world charm.
Even though the core soundtrack of the game hasn't received an overhaul, the PSP version now has an option for you to play music off your memory stick, instead of sticking to the game's default score. That's a plus point all right. The cheesy voice acting stays, which also is a good thing, as the game wouldn't be half as 'craaazy' without it.
Using the PSP's shoulder buttons for acceleration and brakes seemed a bit odd at first, but soon I got used to it. The analog stick was an absolute nightmare for car control, but the D-pad was a pretty good alternative. Even though this is not the most comfortable control scheme I've had in this game, it still worked.
Frankly speaking, if you have played the game enough to give you road rash, there isn't really much here to warrant a purchase. For people like me, who can't get enough of the game and are constantly seeking to better their score, this one is definitely a fun ride.
In case you have never played this game in any of its forms, it will definitely be a thrill ride, as long as you're okay with its classic looks and lack of any kind of story/career mode.
