Nokia has been going with the Communicator 9000 series for business use for a long time, with a full QWERTY keyboard and a large ultra-wide screen in a laptop form factor. The Communicators worked in their time, but over the years we’ve seen the business segment dominated by other Smartphones such as the Windows Mobile Pocket PCs, Palm-powered PCs, BlackBerrys and Sony Ericsson P-series phones. Business phones have dropped the laptop-like Communicator style and have moved closer to look like conventional phones. The Eseries business phones are Nokias late entrants in that segment dominated by the likes of the BlackBerrys, P910s and the Treos.

Just like the Nseries are heavily multimedia-oriented phones, the Eseries are heavily business targeted phones, most of which come without the frills such as a camera or an FM radio. The E61 is the flagship of the Eseries complete with a full QWERTY keyboard, a large wide screen, a myriad of connection options and other features that make it a worthy competitor in this space. In fact, at the price it’s selling for (Rs. 18,000 approximately), the features it provides leave its rivals far behind. Let’s take it for a spin and see how good it really is.

Design
The phone is quite wide, but not too long and not too thick either. The E61 is thicker at the top and a little thinner at the bottom. I have to admit—the phone feels quite bulky. In one glance, I would go far as to say that it even looks quite ugly. This does come right after having used the sultry BlackBerry Pearl and my liking for most slim and small Samsung phones, so I may be a little biased there, but I’m sure you would agree with me and say that even the older BlackBerrys have a more streamlined shape and appearance. Of course, none of those provide any of the new features that the E61 provides.

The P990i, being a more standard candybar form factor, fits in your trouser pockets a little better, but the E61 would fit better in a jacket pocket, which is where it really belongs. No, the phone isn’t heavy at all.

Hi,
I bought this phone 4 days back, all features are really cool (esp internet browser and single button email.)
Everything was fine but now the battery isnt charging! It says 'Charging' and I can see the moving indicator but when I unplug it, it says Low Battery and the indicator is stuck at 0 level. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Good phone overall but the joystick is not a joy to use. They should add a stylus.

I've been using this machine for balckberry purpose for the last 4 weeks now. Initially eveyone including the vendor recommended me for not purchasing this handset cause of problem with the phone's performance on a blackberry subscription. I havent really experienced any such problem till date.
the only disadvantage this handset has is its compatibility with jpg images as attachment received with mails. The word and excel attachments are very user friendly with the joystick control.
only mp4 files can be viewed on video streamimg, any other format is not supported. The battery backup is close to 5 hours including downloads@9-10 mails .

value for money, good controls , sleek looks , easy to carry in pockets. If only nokia could provide a holster for this hanset.
