A Multimedia PC Under Rs 35,000
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Feb 09, 2008

Monitor: Viewsonic VA1703WB

This is a 17-inch widescreen monitor that has a native resolution of 1440x900, offers an excellent response time of 8ms, and has a great 500:1 contrast ratio. It is among the cheapest widescreens available and is ideal for our machine.

Keyboard & Mouse: Microsoft Standard Desktop/Keyboard Mouse Set

Microsoft makes some great computer hardware combos, and this set offers a very comfortable working experience. Now available in a wireless edition, it's the perfect solution.

Cabinet: I-Ball i648 ATX cabinet with integrated 400 Watt PSU

This I-Ball cabinet comes with a 400W PSU and is reasonably priced.

Speakers: Creative SBS 370

This has been our favorite for a long time. The best part — it comes with a woofer to give you that thumping bass and offers good sound quality for the price. The satellites are powered at 5 watts RMS each and the subwoofer is powered at 11 watts RMS. However if your budget permits, we suggest you look at the Altec ATP 3 set which is a better 2.1 set and offers significantly more VFM.

@Kartik

as u are saying that 4 GB is min. it is not so it is the max capacity that a M/B and processor can handle and if u observe even 1 GB is more than enough if u are using XP and 2 GB enuf for vista....

i would suggest to go for 2 GB RAM and instead of seagate and other specified ehre go for hitachi it is known for quality making more efficient than others

PS : if u are getting CPU speed higher but lower version (example : if u has dual core of 2.8 and other u getting core 2 duo of 2.0) then i will recommend for dual core for speed and utilisation

ok i have a budget of 15-20K only on the proc and mobo.
i have selected these 4 QX9770 | QX9650 | Q 9650 | Q9550.
if you could help me narrow down to one and show me a corresponding best mobo, i would be higly obliged.
Price bracket as i said is within 20K for the 2 components only.
Thank you
Royston @ Sep 23, 2008
Ok configuration ppl who r buying the core 2 duo or later version of the core 2 family shud not waste money on chipset motherboard to go with it shud go for intel original 975 xbx2 or for higher ones no doubt the cash u wud spend is more but u will get a way much better specification
If ur planning to spend 35 k why not wait for a month or 2 save more and get a better pc cause nowadays 2gb ram aint good enough u require atleast 4 gb

Hello, I have an Intel DG31PR im planning on getting a GeForce 8800 Ultra but i wanted to know if it fits in my pci e socket because the 8800 ultra is ddr3 i think. Should I get it?
Pierre @ Aug 23, 2008

nilay @ May 13, 2008
I have bought Intel E8200 processor and DG31Pr board.
but when I assembled both display is not coming on screen.
Is both are compatible to each other?

Hello Tech2, Thanks for this wonderful article, i was thinking of upgrading my old home pc. Keep doing this kind of work with more robust research to help us in taking sound decisions for buying. BTW do also research and write an article on buying a high performance stable Laptop under 55K to 60K.

hey..xfx got th entry level gaming Mobos with onboard graphics...it comes with 7 series Geforce onborad chipset...tht wud be a supercool combination coz its not tht expensive as this board.
VInz @ Feb 26, 2008
is it possible for a better performing motherboard at lesser price? the combination of both the motherboard and On board graphics card is getting really expensive - its hitting Rs.10500(5350+5150)
ashton @ Feb 22, 2008
Isnt the monitor a bit small for an LCD ??
Tapas @ Feb 19, 2008
overall it's not bad. But the graphics card should have been better. A 8800 gt is minimum.

Hi there
How is the motherboard intel dg31pr, and also can i attach the graphics card onto it? Secondly do u buy ram as a kit ( ie 2 dims for dual channel mode) if not do they give the same efficiency as two seprately bought modules

HI bittu how to over lock
Anuj @ Feb 15, 2008
instead of 17" monitor waste extra 1,000 and get a good 19"widescreen monitor and iBall gamer for 1,750....nforce 650i Ultra motherboard for the same price.....
Himanshu Sharma @ Feb 14, 2008
hello Mr krishna i think that you should buy a desktop because
1 your daughter is still young
2 it is easy to upgrade the components
3 pc is cheap
4 easy to use
BITTU @ Feb 12, 2008
dear Anuj sorry to tell you but you cannot use ddr 2 ram on a motherboard supporting ddr1 as they both are different in terms of shape speed etc but you can try to overclock it but be very very carefull
BITTU @ Feb 12, 2008
but why two ram cards of 1gb each instead 2 gb
ameyjah @ Feb 12, 2008

I have been considering to upgrade by home PC for sometime now - currently I've a Pentimum MMX 200 processor with 120MB RAM and 120GB space with multimedia speaker-mike. I've delayed my purchase as I was waiting for our daughter who is 7years now to know how to start operating the PC in a proper manner. But I've a dilemma:

1) Should I buy a PC or a Laptop - I considering this from the space point of view but worried if my daughter drops it then its finished. Further I've been told by many that the life of a laptop is not more then 3years - in my case I'm using the PC mostly on weekends or to acess the internet or to do help our daughter with her project-studies.
2) Can a mobile be better than a Laptop/PC for using internet?

Waiting your advice thanks.

very good and balanced config, After a long time i have seen a config which delivers on all front, only thing which can be changed is having a e4500 processor and a 19" monitor

amd is in a rut its not a good idea to invest in amd right now
Manan @ Feb 11, 2008
Great! but what about AMD processors that can bring down the cost to 30,000 bucks
Saket @ Feb 10, 2008
abit mobo seems great but seagate hdd i wouldnt recommend that after reading a lot of complaints about it and myself facing them on 3 differnt hdds at work and home it would rather make sense to go for a samsung or wd
Manan @ Feb 10, 2008
goo config, but i feel some insecure ,i.e, the motherboard give perforence as well as intel...
narendra @ Feb 10, 2008
@vijay i have the board that u mentioned and it sucks. Its already failed twice since i got it. Your advice is not any more valid. The abit /asus boards are far better and at least i get service for these boards

The article could clearly use some re-balancing even though its been already mentioned in two places to get better parts. A cheaper processor and a better case/psu would be a better bet.
Jamy@jam.com @ Feb 10, 2008
A multimedia computer has to be a balance of components within budget. Not just an expensive processor and motherbaord. I believe that the processor mb balance within budget would be with 4.5k E-4300, and motherboard choice will have to rest with Palit N73V for 2.6k. The 5k thus saved will go for better multimedia i.e. Zeb Bijlee case plus 400W Powersafe PSU(it is criminal to assemble a 35k comp with Rs. 300 power supply bundled in cabinets )- 19inch VG1930WM- and ATP3 in lieu of iBall suggested.
vijay @ Feb 10, 2008
Thanks tech2 for the article, would definitely go a long way in helping us make informed decisions.
A suggestion.........we do not have a lot of reviews on the site for individual components, could we work on this.
Yuvith @ Feb 10, 2008
fantastic !
